To start this private sightseeing tour on the road of the most beautiful villages
in Provence, towards Fontaine de Vaucluse to discover its extraordinary spring at
the foot of a cliff 230 meters high. This source, called fountain, is the most powerful
of France and the fifth in the world.
Then, we'll go to the heart of the Regional Natural Reserve of the Luberon to the
discovery of three unique villages classified amongst "the most beautiful villages
You’ll adore the exceptional setting of the village of Gordes. Perched 400m up a
hillside, Gordes overlooks the Calavon valley with its church and Renaissance castle
at the top, facing the surrounding hills. You can stroll along the paved streets
where the slope has been transformed into steps, and you’ll discover its tall houses
built straight into the rock, its archeological remains and its wonderful views.
Roussillon is a little village perched on an ochre cliff (clay earth pigment), surrounded
by spectacular scenery. It is located in the heart of the biggest ochre deposit in
the world. You’ll love its picturesque streets and little village squares, with its
houses in different shades of the rich palette of yellow and red ochres.
Ménerbes, a village famous for its landscape and its unique light. ranked amongst
“the most beautiful villages in France”, it has always attracted painters. Picasso
and many others stayed there. As you stroll through its narrow streets, you’ll discover
beautiful old houses and mansions of many of the 13° century.
We’ll conclude this private day tour in Provence by visiting one of the most beautiful
villages in Provence, Les Baux de Provence. This unique village, in the heart of
the Regional Natural Reserve of the Alpilles, is perched on a rocky outcrop, 247
m high. Its paved streets, its renaissance houses will amaze you… The Baux Castle,
located on the highest point of the plateau, blends in with the rock. It offers spectacular
views of the vines, the olive groves, the Camargue… as far as the sea. During your
visit to this “eagle’s nest”, you’ll see reconstructed artillery based on 13th century
drawings (catapults, battering rams…).
