We’ll begin our day by a sightseeing tour of Marseille, the oldest city of France.
Founded in 600 BC by the Greeks from Phocaea, this city was called Massalia, the
“Phocean City”. Marseille, France's largest commercial port, is located on the shore
of the Mediterranean Sea where beautiful sceneries such as pine forests, limestone,
scrubland and wild creeks called “Calanques”, surround the city. We’ll guide you
through Marseille to make you discover the famous places of the Provencal city: the
basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, 19th century basilica situated at 162m high which
overlooks the Sea and watches over the city; the Cathedral de la Major; the fishing
port of Vallon des Auffes… We’ll drive along the famous boulevard of the Canebière
which will lead us to the discovery of the Old Port (Vieux Port), and alongside the
Corniche to appreciate a marvelous view over the Frioul Islands, the Château d'If
Island, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Calanques of Marseille.
To continue this private tour in Provence, we’ll take a panoramic road, crossing
the Calanques Massif of Marseille, to the village of Cassis. Located in a sumptuous
spot, between sea, Calanques and Cap Canaille Cliffs, this little fishing port and
marina will amaze you by its colorful facades overlooking the bay. After having lunch
on your own, you’ll be able to take the time to stroll along the banks lined with
shops, cafes and restaurants before offering you if you desire, a sea cruise to discover
the famous Calanques of Cassis, or even a swim in this little piece of paradise.
des romains. Vous découvrirez le Glanum, ancienne cité romaine bâtie autour d’une
source sacrée. Les vestiges de la cité sont dominés par un mausolée très bien conservé,
et par un arc municipal mutilé, appelés les Antiques.
